Campus Safety Update – Fisher Hall Evacuation
We want to inform you that Southern University has issued a notice regarding the evacuation of John W. Fisher Hall and the surrounding area out of an abundance of caution. All students, faculty, staff, and visitors have been asked to avoid that area until further notice.
At this time, Southern University Laboratory School is not affected by this evacuation. Our campus remains secure, and we are continuing normal operations.
School Closure Notice – Southern University Laboratory School
Southern University has received a threat involving potential violence on campus. In coordination with university officials and law enforcement, the campus was placed on lockdown earlier today.
Effective immediately, all campus activities and classes are cancelled for Thursday, September 11, and Friday, September 12. As a result, SULS will be closed as well. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority.

The Southern University Laboratory School Counseling Department is off to a strong start this school year! With schedules finalized and class cohort meetings underway, our counselors are fully prepared to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development. September is packed with meaningful events including senior and junior meetings, a suicide prevention assembly, Anti-Bullying Week, and the National College Fair trip. Parents and students are encouraged to stay engaged and informed—your counselors are here to serve and support every step of the way!

The Southern University Laboratory School is proud to announce Anti-Bullying Week 2025, themed “Power 4 Good”. From Monday, September 8, through Friday, September 12, 2025, our Kitten family will come together to promote kindness, respect, and courage while standing united against bullying.
Bullying prevention is more than a theme—it’s a commitment. At SULS, we believe that every student deserves to learn in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. Anti-Bullying Week empowers students to recognize, report, and refuse bullying, while also encouraging them to be upstanders who practice kindness and inclusion every day. Families play a vital role by reinforcing these values at home and helping our Jaguars become leaders in empathy and respect.

Save the Date! Southern University Laboratory School Open House will be held on Tuesday, September 2nd at 5:30 PM. Spotlight on Excellence: Aiden Jones, A Shining Example of Service and Leadership at Southern University Laboratory School
Aiden, a current 7th-grade student at Southern University Laboratory School, has been a beloved member of our school community since first grade. Over the years, he has grown into a bright, responsible, and compassionate young leader whose actions speak volumes.
Recently, Aiden led a remarkable fundraising campaign, raising $2,000 for Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Motivated by a sincere desire to comfort children facing serious health challenges, Aiden’s initiative reminds us that leadership and empathy know no age. His efforts not only made a tangible impact but also inspired his peers and educators alike.

Paying Your Tuition 25.26
Southern University Laboratory School will be accepting tuition payments for the 25- 26 SY at the Back to School Bash. To receive your schedule, you must pay your tuition. Parents will be able to pay in person on Saturday, August 2, 2025. SUBR Cashier’s office will be on site, accepting payments via major debit/credit card, money order, or cashier’s check (No personal checks or cash).

A dedicated educator with over 17 years of experience, Mrs. Chidlow brings a wealth of knowledge in curriculum, leadership, and student support. While we’ll miss her presence in the 5th grade classroom, we’re excited for the expertise she brings to our elementary and middle school programs. Principal’s Message
Principal Nadia Washington Seals is excited to welcome students and families back for a promising new school year at Southern University Laboratory School. With the theme “Excellence by Choice, Not by Chance,” the focus is on daily intentional growth and success.
Students are reminded to complete their summer reading to start strong, and families should finalize uniform orders ahead of the August 11 start date. New this year: students may wear Kelly green or hunter green tennis shoes as part of their casual uniform.

Cafeteria Information 25.26
Southern University Laboratory School will be giving our families different options to pay for lunch. We will be offering daily, weekly, monthly, and prepay options. The funds will be collected via MyMealTime.com. Click the link to view instructions and an explanation of each payment option and how to add funds to your student’s account. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring their student has sufficient funds to pay for breakfast and/or lunch.
2025-2026 Tuition Schedule
Southern University Laboratory School is a tuition-based school, and in order to operate properly and effectively, we must have sufficient funds in place. As we continue to maximize the learning opportunity for our students, it is imperative that families not only fulfill their financial obligations, but also pay them in a timely manner. As we prepare for another exciting and impactful school year, we are pleased to share the official 2025–2026 Tuition Schedule for the Southern University Laboratory School. This schedule outlines important dates and deadlines to help you plan and stay informed throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
Southern University Laboratory School Foundation Fellowship
The Southern University Laboratory School is proud to announce the release of the 2025–2026 Foundation Fellowship Application. Please be advised that the Southern University Laboratory School Foundation Fellowship Award covers the cost of tuition only. The Foundation Fellowship Award recipients are expected to pay all fees. All fellowship awards will be awarded yearly and are not automatically renewed. Applicants must apply every year. The application period for the upcoming school year will begin on Thursday, June 19, 2025, and will end on Friday, July 11, 2025.
