Southern University Laboratory School Foundation Fellowship

The Southern University Laboratory School is proud to announce the release of the 2025–2026 Foundation Fellowship. This is an opportunity designed to support outstanding students who embody the spirit of excellence, leadership, and service.

Established to honor our school’s legacy and to invest in its promising future, the Foundation Fellowship provides critical support for high-achieving students entering grades 5th-12th who demonstrate academic strength, character, and a commitment to the Southern University Laboratory School community.

The application period for the upcoming school year will begin on Thursday, June 19, 2025, and close on Friday, July 11, 2025.

Applications will not be accepted unless all fields are completed in its entirety including all required documents. No applications will be accepted prior to the application period. All applications and required documents are due by 3:00 p.m. on July 11th for all applicants.

Requirements

  • Applicant must have already completed one (1) academic school year at the Southern University Laboratory School.

  • Applicant must be promoted to the next grade (Fifth through Twelfth Grade ONLY) for the upcoming school year

  • Applicant must have earned a minimum 3.5 GPA in core subjects (Math, Science, English, Social Studies) from the previous school year.

  • Applicant must have earned at least “Mastery” or above in two tested areas on the most recent LEAP standardized test (5th-11th Grade ONLY).

  • Applicant must have earned at least "Mastery" or above on one tested area on the most recent LEAP standardized test, AND have earned at least a "21" Composite score on the ACT (12th Grade ONLY).

  • Applicant must have a disciplinary record without any major disciplinary infractions as defined in the most recent student handbook prior to submitting the application (suspension/expulsion). 

  • Applicant must maintain a clean disciplinary record for the 1st semester in order to maintain their award for the second semester.

  • All balances must be paid in full from the previous school year. 

    Award Process

  • Applicants entering grades 10th-12th will be awarded no later than July 15, 2025.

  • Applicants entering grades 5th-9th will be awarded no later than August 1, 2025 (pending LEAP scores).

  • All notifications will be sent via email to the email address that was indicated on the completed application.


    Renewal Process

    The Foundation Fellowship Award is not guaranteed and is based on available funding. All awards are issued on a year to year (school year) basis. Applicants must reapply for the Foundation Fellowship Award by the deadline each year (school year). Applicants must maintain Fellowship requirements as listed above in order to receive second-semester funding.  

    Award Amount

  • Tuition Only: $1,250.00 per semester

  • All school fees are the responsibility of the parent/guardian. School fees are to be paid by the established registration deadline. Failure to pay school fees by the registration deadline will result in revocation from Southern University Laboratory School. Families who receive a Foundation Fellowship Award will not be granted a deferment (Payment plan).

  • All applicants are required to pay the School Fees and any processing fee each semester to cover the cost associated with school fees by the given deadline. 

    -Should the applicant not be awarded the Foundation Fellowship, the Business Office will make contact about payment arrangements

    Volunteerism:

    Families (Parents & Students) who receive a Foundation Fellowship Award are expected to volunteer a minimum of five hours per semester. Failure to fulfill or complete this requirement will result in a fine of $100. Failure to pay a fine will result in the loss of the award.

    For the purpose of this application, refer to the entering grade/promotion grade as it pertains to the 2025-2026 school year.
