Southern University Laboratory School’s elementary department is dedicated to every child and his or her needs. The department is designed to build a solid foundation while placing an emphasis on critical thinking skills, integration of technology and development of social skills. We strive to create a positive environment that inspires students to be creative and imaginative through purposeful and hands-on structured activities. Our certified staff provides quality instruction in a safe learning environment that fosters academic growth while simultaneously providing intervention and remediation for students who are in need. Our tier I curricula are aligned with Louisiana State Standards and exposes our students to rigorous materials and skills needed to prepare them for standardized testing (LEAP 2025, ASPIRE, etc.).

It is our mission to maintain small class sizes which allows a low student teacher ratio where teachers can differentiate instruction with rich student engagement that supports problem solving and student directed learning.  Students are encouraged to explore and engage in collaborative and robust learning that prepares them academically, socially and emotionally, and also stimulates meaningful learning experiences that equip them to be life-long learners.
