Southern University School Counseling Department

The Southern University School Counseling Department is committed to supporting students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development through counseling, collaboration, advocacy, and program implementation.

We are off to a great start this school year! All schedules have been completed and finalized, class cohort meetings have been scheduled, and the school counselors are ready to serve.

  • September 4 – Senior Meeting @ 6:00 p.m. Senior Parents and Students,

Welcome to your 12th and final year of high school! There are many important things that seniors will need to do as we approach graduation. First on the agenda is the 12th-grade senior meeting. This meeting will be held on Thursday, September 4th, at 6:00 pm in the SULS library. At this meeting, your school counselors will discuss briefly graduation requirements, FAFSA completion(LOSFA representative), graduation supplies (Herf Jones), senior updates, senior fees (Ms. Bates), and other pertinent information. It is imperative that you attend. We look forward to seeing you there.

  • September 9Senior Trip (National College Fair) Seniors, to attend the Baton Rouge National College Fair held at the Raising Cane's River Center on Tuesday, September 9th, from 9 am to 11 am. Students will be transported to Mr. Gatti's after loading the bus at 11 am, and then arrive at Mr. Gatti's at 11:30 am. Students will have lunch at Mr. Gatti's from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm. Arrival time back at SU Lab for 1:00 pm. Students will be assessed a $25 fee to include the cost of the bus (transportation) and food (Mr. Gatti's Pizza). Cost for 2 buses $750 (SU Lab bus and Benny's bus). Purchase your ticket here

  • September 10 – Junior Meeting @ 6:00 p.m. 

  • September 11 – Suicide Prevention Assembly

  • September 12 – ACT Deadline (October 18 Testing Date)

  • September 24 – Sophomore Meeting @ 6:00 p.m. 

  • September 30 - Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) screener
