Spotlight on Excellence: Brandon Odom Shines in ExxonMobil Internship
At Southern University Laboratory School, we take immense pride in celebrating the accomplishments of our scholars who embody our values of scholarship, leadership, and service. Today, we would like to highlight Brandon Odom, a standout student who recently completed an exceptional summer internship with ExxonMobil.
Brandon was selected as one of only 40 high school students across the region to participate in ExxonMobil’s prestigious High School Internship Program—an eight-week, paid summer experience designed for rising juniors and seniors. This competitive program pairs students with mentors and assigns them real-world projects that foster career exploration and professional growth.
During his internship, Brandon was placed at the ExxonMobil Lubricant Plant in Port Allen, Louisiana. His primary assignment was to implement a 5S organizational system in the mezzanine area of the lubricant warehouse. This was a project that required strategic planning, collaboration, and hands-on problem-solving. Throughout the summer, Brandon worked closely with engineers, operators, and his mentor, gaining invaluable insight into plant operations and the field of mechanical engineering.
Beyond his technical work, Brandon also embraced ExxonMobil’s commitment to community service. He volunteered with several nonprofit organizations, including United Way, United Cajun Navy, and Habitat for Humanity, demonstrating the same spirit of service that defines the Kitten Community.
The internship culminated in a formal presentation of his project to ExxonMobil site leaders. This was a moment that showcased Brandon’s growth in communication, leadership, and professional confidence. Reflecting on the experience, Brandon expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, noting how it solidified his aspirations to pursue a career in mechanical engineering.
Brandon’s journey is a testament to the excellence we nurture at Southern University Laboratory School. His achievements reflect not only his personal dedication but also the supportive environment that empowers our students to lead in every facet of life.
Congratulations, Brandon! We are proud of you and look forward to all the great things your future holds.
