Position Overview
The Middle School Physical Education Teacher will provide engaging, standards-based physical education instruction that promotes physical fitness, healthy decision-making, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness. The teacher is responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and active learning environment while planning, organizing, and implementing instructional activities that encourage every student to reach their fullest potential academically, socially, and physically.
Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Deliver engaging physical education instruction aligned with Louisiana academic standards.
Develop lesson plans that promote fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
Foster a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Teach sportsmanship, leadership, cooperation, and personal responsibility.
Assess student growth in physical skills, participation, and wellness knowledge
Utilize technology and innovative instructional strategies to enhance learning
Communicate regularly with students and families
Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events
Assist with school-wide activities and extracurricular programs as appropriate
Serve as a positive role model while supporting the mission of Southern University Laboratory School
Qualifications
Required Bachelor's degree in Education or related field. Valid Louisiana teaching certification (or eligibility) in Physical Education. Experience teaching Physical Education, Knowledge of instructional technology, and digital learning platforms
Preferred
Master's Degree in Education, Multiple teaching certifications, Experience coaching athletics or sponsoring extracurricular activities, Experience mentoring student teachers or collaborating in professional learning communities
