Position Overview
The Middle School Math Teacher will provide engaging, standards-based mathematics instruction that develops students' problem-solving abilities, mathematical reasoning, and confidence. The teacher is responsible for creating an engaging learning environment while planning, organizing, and implementing an instructional program that helps students achieve their highest academic potential.
Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Deliver rigorous, engaging mathematics instruction aligned to Louisiana academic standards
Develop weekly lesson plans and instructional pacing
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs
Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth
Maintain a positive, structured classroom culture
Use educational technology to enhance student learning
Communicate regularly with students and families
Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events
Serve as a positive role model for students while supporting the mission of Southern University Laboratory School
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
Valid Louisiana teaching certification (or eligibility) in the appropriate grade level/content area
Experience teaching mathematics
Knowledge of instructional technology and digital learning platforms
Preferred
Master's Degree in Education
Multiple teaching certifications
Experience mentoring student teachers or collaborating in professional learning communities
