Caring for Your Chromebook – Guidelines & Responsibilities at SU Lab School
At Southern University Laboratory School, Chromebooks are essential learning tools provided to students free of charge. To ensure their longevity and usability, students must follow specific guidelines for care, usage, and digital responsibility.
Key Chromebook Guidelines:
Always keep Chromebooks in the school-issued “Work-In” case.
Avoid placing Chromebooks on soft surfaces or near food, drinks, or pets.
Never lift or carry Chromebooks by the screen.
Do not personalize Chromebooks or cases with stickers, drawings, or labels.
Keep devices out of unsupervised areas and vehicles.
Follow proper cleaning procedures using disinfectant wipes or alcohol-based solutions.
Digital Citizenship Expectations: Students are encouraged to:
Think before posting online.
Respect others’ privacy.
Avoid cyberbullying.
Credit original creators and follow copyright laws.
Repair & Replacement Responsibilities: Students are accountable for any damage, loss, or misuse of their assigned Chromebook. Fees may be charged for:
Repair costs: $75–$120
Protective case: $95
AC charger: $85
Full replacement (lost/damaged beyond repair): $370
Loaner devices are available during repairs, but the same care expectations apply. If a Chromebook is stolen, a police report must be filed. All fees are charged to the student’s library account and must be paid, including any outstanding balances from previous years.
By following these guidelines, students help maintain the integrity of their devices and contribute to a responsible digital learning environment.
