Southern Lab Sophomore Captures National Spotlight with Iconic Shot
Southern Lab sophomore Kalen Williams recently earned national recognition when the NCAA’s official FCS account selected one of his game-day photos as a Top Pic of the Week. Capturing Southern University’s matchup against Jackson State, Kalen’s photo of running back Trey Holly in action showcased his growing talent and passion for photography. Balancing academics with creative pursuits, Kalen continues to make his mark both behind the camera and in the classroom—proving that excellence at SULS comes in many forms.
SUBR/SULS Power Outage
We want to inform you that Southern University Laboratory School is currently experiencing a partial power outage, with approximately half of the campus without electricity. Please rest assured that all students are safe and are handling the situation with the resilience and grace we’ve come to expect from our Kittens.
University personnel are actively working to restore power as quickly as possible. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure student comfort, parents may begin the process of picking up their children. Staff will be on hand to assist with a smooth and orderly dismissal.

Campus Safety Update – All Clear Issued (John B Cade)
We are writing to inform you that the situation related to the earlier threat at the John B. Cade Library on the campus of Southern University and A&M College has been fully investigated by law enforcement. The campus has been deemed safe, and normal operations may now resume.

Campus Safety Update – John B. Cade Library Evacuation
We have received an update from Southern University regarding a potential threat at the Southern University John B. Cade Library. As a precautionary measure, the library has been evacuated and will remain closed until further notice while authorities investigate the situation.
Fisher Hall - All Clear
Southern University and A&M College has received an all clear for Fisher Hall. The SU Police Department, in coordination with local law enforcement agencies, has thoroughly investigated the situation and determined there is no threat. Normal operations may now resume. We thank the campus community for their patience and cooperation.
Campus Safety Update – Fisher Hall Evacuation
We want to inform you that Southern University has issued a notice regarding the evacuation of John W. Fisher Hall and the surrounding area out of an abundance of caution. All students, faculty, staff, and visitors have been asked to avoid that area until further notice.
At this time, Southern University Laboratory School is not affected by this evacuation. Our campus remains secure, and we are continuing normal operations.
School Closure Notice – Southern University Laboratory School
Southern University has received a threat involving potential violence on campus. In coordination with university officials and law enforcement, the campus was placed on lockdown earlier today.
Effective immediately, all campus activities and classes are cancelled for Thursday, September 11, and Friday, September 12. As a result, SULS will be closed as well. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority.

With schedules finalized and class cohort meetings underway, our counselors are fully prepared to support students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development. September is packed with meaningful events including senior and junior meetings, a suicide prevention assembly, Anti-Bullying Week, and the National College Fair trip. Parents and students are encouraged to stay engaged and informed—your counselors are here to serve and support every step of the way!
