Madison Spears Earns Salutatorian Status

The Class of 2023 Salutatorian is Miss. Madison Spears. Madison is the daughter of Ms. Angela Spears (C/O 92’).  Madison has attended Southern University Laboratory School for 4 years. She has graced the halls daily with a warm smile anytime you encounter her. She has been the epitome of a student athlete. We always put focus on the student part first. Madison is graduating with a 4.095 grade point average while participating in many extracurricular activities.

Kelsie Tillage Earns Valedictorian Status

The SULS Class of 2023, Valedictorian is Kelsie Tillage. Kelsie is the daughter of Mr. Keith (C/O 87') & Ann Tillage. Kelsie has been with the Lab family since her 4th grade year and has maintained her honor roll status since. Kelsie is a member of the Senior Beta club and is involved in several volunteering ventures such as tutoring, reading and creating book logs for children, providing digital content for non-profit organizations, and spearheaded the Queen's Book Drive from her literacy platform, with over 1700 books donated and counting. She has participated in Varsity and Club Volleyball, Youth & Government, the Student Government Association, serving as Secretary, Vice President, Parliamentarian, and the Centennial Miss Southern High.

Congratulations to Kelsie Tillage! She earned the Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) Young Hero Award. A Young Hero is defined as an exceptional young person who has excelled in academics, given significantly of themselves through public service, overcome adversity, exhibited extraordinary heroism, or inspired others through their deeds and strength of character.

Southern University Laboratory School Athletic Department is proud to announce the nomination process for the SULS Hall of Fame. The purpose of the Southern University Laboratory School Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those SULS athletes, coaches, and administrators who excelled in their respective sports or coaching/support roles and who helped to bring honor, recognition, distinction, and excellence to SULS by their conduct.  This recognition will help maintain the spirit, pride, and sense of community as well as serve as a historical account of the great athletic traditions of Southern University Laboratory School

Suit Up For The Future

Suit Up For The Future

The three-week program will be held at the Louisiana Bar Center and is scheduled on June 12, 2023 – June 30, 2023. Students who complete the program will be eligible for a stipend of up to $250.00! Students must provide their own transportation to the program. Students have the option of paying a residential housing fee if housing is needed (adult chaperone required). The estimated housing cost for three-weeks is $1,080 and approximately $60 per day. Please contact Cara Traczek at catracze@loyno.edu for more information.

Over the course of the three-week program, students will be introduced to lawyers, legal documents, and the legal system, all designed to assist them in pondering one important question, “Do I really want to be a lawyer?”

Cyber Security Camp is a FREE 5-day NON-RESIDENTIAL camp where students will learn about the exciting world of cybersecurity: each day, campers will participate in many hands-on computer activities to learn about different cybersecurity topics. The goals of the program are to increase interest in cybersecurity careers and diversity in the cybersecurity workforce of the nation, help all students understand correct and safe on-line behavior, and how they can be good digital citizens. Women's History Month Discussion

This Women's History Month program seeks to explore the daily indignities and inequalities that women face, often without support. This panel of fierce female change agents will empower us and educate us about the urgent need for narrative change and memorialization work that can lead to needed gender disparity reforms. Most importantly, they will teach us penetrating lessons about who women really are. Join and learn how they have navigated their respected spaces "with a knee on their necks."

SULS Summer Camps 2023

Southern University Laboratory School is excited to announce that we will be hosting our summer enrichment program again this summer. We will have a variety of learning opportunities for grades Pre-K through 12. We will offer Camp S.W.A.G for Elementary students and Bridging the Gap for Middle and High School students. Also, Southern University’s Agricultural Department will host Southern University BAYOU & Southern University BAYOU Camp Ag-Xperience for High School students.

SULS Student Places in Visual Arts Competition at State Beta Convention 

Congratulations to Kameron Tillage on placing 4th in the  Black & White Photography in Division II. Kameron along with 13 students attended the state Beta Convention in February.  The Visual Arts competition provides students the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents and creative abilities. This completion is designed to encourage creativity, innovation, reward outstanding craftsmanship, and reinforce the importance of fine arts.

Alpha Phi Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship

The Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship award is open to Beta Iota Lambda Chapter mentees and affiliates who are preparing to pursue a bachelor degree, associate degree, technical diploma or certificate at a U.S. accredited college or university.  Contingent upon the availability of funding, the scholarship is a one-time only award and will be paid during the first academic year of official enrollment in a four-year University or College or a Career/Vocational/Technical program.  Click Here for More Info

SULS Participates in Region IV Science Fair

Southern University Laboratory School sent 29 students to the Regional VII Science Fair to compete against students from various high schools. Two students placed in their categories. Kaleb Byrd, 9th grade, placed 3rd in the Behavioral Science category. Cydney Williams, 11th grade, placed in the Microbiology category. All science fair participants not only exemplified their creativity, but also their determination, diligence, and superb work ethics in their researching, planning, and conducting of their project’s plan and experiment. Congratulations to Mrs. Bell and all participants.  Go Kittens!

Baton Rouge Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has initiated a Pre-College in partnership with Southern University Laboratory School. IBM Facilitates STEM Conversation with SULS Students

On Thursday, February 9, 2023, International Business Machines (IBM) visited Southern University Laboratory School to engage students about STEM areas highlighting technology and how integral it is in their everyday lives. IBM staff members introduced themselves, highlighting their educational background (schools & majors) along with the projects they have worked on. SULS Girl Scouts: Cookies

Our girls have a goal to sell 3,400 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in total as a troop. Every box counts. The proceeds from cookie sales go back into our school's troop as well as the local Girl Scouts community. Cookie sales help aide in supporting our girls to participate in many amazing Girl Scout opportunities throughout the year. Thank you for supporting us and helping our troop to stand out from the rest.
