2023-2024 School Year

Start of School

  1. When is the first day of school? First day of school is August 09, 2023

  2. When is Orientation/Open House? Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Elemen. 10:00 AM  & MS/HS 11:00 AM

  3. When does the application process end? SULS will not collect anymore applications for the 23/24SY

  4. When can we start bringing school supplies? 

August 7, 2023 - 9:00AM - 11:00AM

  1. Has the school supply list been posted? The elementary school supply / middle/high school supply lists can be found on the school’s website

  2. When is the first day to start paying tuition? Parents can start paying tuition May 31, 2023. Deadline to pay in-full is July 21, 2022. Students who have not initiated the tuition process prior to the start of school will not be allowed to start school on August 09, 2023. Carpool


  1. When can students be dropped off? Students can be dropped off at 7:35 am

  2. What time do I need to check my student into the front office when I am late? Students are tardy at 7:55 am and will not be allowed to enter once the gate(s) are closed. Students must check into the front office and enter class with a check in slip. 

  3. How does morning carpool work? 

    1. Elementary carpool will start at 7:35 am. Parents will enter at gate 3 (Isabelle Herson St.) and move toward the gym area. Students will be dropped off at the back near the back of the cafeteria. After dropping off the students parents will exit gate #4 (near football practice field) turning right toward Isabelle Herson St.

    2. Middle/High School carpool will start at 7:35 am. Parents will enter at gate 2 (Isabelle Herson St.)  making the first left in the gravel area.  Students will exit the vehicle and parents will exit gate #1 turning right (Isabelle Herson St.)

  4. How does afternoon carpool work?

    • Parents will start lining up for elementary carpool  at 2:30 pm. Parents will enter at gate 3 and move toward the gym area. Students will be dropped off at the back near the back of the cafeteria. After dropping off the students parents will exit gate #4 (near football practice field) turning right toward Isabelle Herson St. . 

    • Middle/High School carpool lineup will start at 2:30 pm. Parents will enter at gate 2 making the first left in the gravel area.  Students will enter the vehicle and parents will exit gate #1 turning right (Isabelle Herson St.)

  5. Can students park on campus? Yes, students can park on campus in the student parking lot. All vehicles must be registered through the Southern University Police Department. Registration will start on _______ for students.

  • What is the latest  time that students can be picked up? 3:30 pm and anytime after that, students will be sent to aftercare at the parent’s expense.


Before Care/After Care

  1. Does SULS have before care/after care? Yes, additional information will be provided prior to the beginning of school. 

  2. When will before care and after care begin? After-care and Before-care will start TBA.

    • Morning Care: 7:00 am to 7:35 am.

    • After Care: 3:10 pm to 5:30 pm.

Dress Code

  1. What is the dress code policy? See the attached link for the dress code policy.

  2. When do students dress up? Students are expected to dress in dress attire on Mondays.  Students will be expected to be in full dress uniform every Monday until otherwise noted. Students will also be expected to be in full dress attire during the honor roll program, special assemblies, and Founders Day. Click here for more information.

  3. Can girls wear navy shorts? Yes. Due to supply challenges for girls' plaid walking shorts, girls will be allowed to wear navy uniform pants, walking shorts, skirts, or skorts (no more than 2” above the knee) temporarily. Once supplies are available, we will inform parents. This will only be for the 2022/2023 school year.

  4. When can students wear spirit shirts (SULS t-shirts). Students can wear spirit shirts on Fridays. Students must wear school uniform pants with spirit shirts. Spirit shirts can be purchased in the Kitten Store

  5. Can athletes dress down on game day? Athletes will wear school uniforms on game day unless authorized by administration. 

  6. What are the Kitten Store Hours? Contact school for store hours.


    Academics

  1. What type of schedule will the school utilize?

    1. Elementary: Elementary students will follow a daily schedule similar to the one listed below. Times may vary depending on lunch, PE, and any additional ancillary classes.

  1. Will the school participate in standardized testing for the 2023/2024 school year? Yes, students in 3rd through 11th grade will participate in LEAP 2025 testing. High school students will take LEAP 2025 assessments at the end of certain courses (English I, English II, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology and US History). LEAP 2025 will take place in May 2024. If needed, high school students will have an opportunity to retest in December and May. 

  2. Will SULS participate in Dual Enrollment? Yes, DE is an essential feature of SULS. Please contact Mrs. Angela Carter-Robinson about Dual Enrollment requirements and questions. She can be contacted at angela_robinson@sulabschool.com.   

  3. When is the first day for Dual Enrollment (DE)? August 21, 2023

  4. When should students begin taking the ACT? Students should begin taking the ACT as early as possible, preferably in the 8th grade. Early and continued exposure  to the ACT allows students to build test taking stamina and improve their score throughout their high school career.  

  5. What are the upcoming ACT dates?  The upcoming test dates for the 2023-2024  school year are- September 9, October 28, December 9, February 10, April 13, June 8 and July 13. You can register for the test at www.act.org


Athletics

  1. The first official day for volleyball practice is? August 04, 2022. Contact Bayley Hodges for more information

  2. The first official day for football practice is? August 07, 2023. Contact Darryl Asberry for more information.

  3. When can students participate in extracurricular activities? Before all athletes can participate in extracurricular activities they must complete the necessary (LHSAA & SULS) paperwork. 

  4. Is my child automatically eligible for LHSAA sports once they enter SULS? Only students who have attended SULS for one calendar year or reside in the SULS attendance zone are eligible for LHSAA sports. Cafeteria (Lunch/Breakfast)

  1. Will breakfast be served during the school year? Yes, breakfast will be offered this school year. The cost of breakfast is  Full Price $2.60/meal Reduced: $.30/meal.

  2. What is the cost for lunch? Full Price $3.90/meal Reduced  $.40/meal

  3. Can students bring their own lunch? Yes, lunch must be fully wrapped. Students do not have access to a microwave to heat food.

Can outside food be ordered for students? No, students are not allowed to order outside food (brought by parents, guardians, or outside individuals). Students are not allowed to order food through any food delivery services, including Doordash, Ubereats, and Waitr (or any service that delivers food).
