Principal Nadia Washington Seals is excited to welcome students and families back for a promising new school year at Southern University Laboratory School. With the theme “Excellence by Choice, Not by Chance,” the focus is on daily intentional growth and success.
Students are reminded to complete their summer reading to start strong, and families should finalize uniform orders ahead of the August 11 start date. New this year: students may wear Kelly green or hunter green tennis shoes as part of their casual uniform.
Don’t miss the One Stop Shop Back to School Bash on August 2, 2025—an essential event for all families to gear up for the year ahead.

Southern University Laboratory School will be giving our families different options to pay for lunch. We will be offering daily, weekly, monthly, and prepay options. The funds will be collected via MyMealTime.com. Click the link to view instructions and an explanation of each payment option and how to add funds to your student’s account. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring their student has sufficient funds to pay for breakfast and/or lunch.
2025-2026 Tuition Schedule
Southern University Laboratory School is a tuition-based school, and in order to operate properly and effectively, we must have sufficient funds in place. As we continue to maximize the learning opportunity for our students, it is imperative that families not only fulfill their financial obligations, but also pay them in a timely manner. As we prepare for another exciting and impactful school year, we are pleased to share the official 2025–2026 Tuition Schedule for the Southern University Laboratory School. This schedule outlines important dates and deadlines to help you plan and stay informed throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
Southern University Laboratory School Foundation Fellowship
The Southern University Laboratory School is proud to announce the release of the 2025–2026 Foundation Fellowship Application. Please be advised that the Southern University Laboratory School Foundation Fellowship Award covers the cost of tuition only. The Foundation Fellowship Award recipients are expected to pay all fees. All fellowship awards will be awarded yearly and are not automatically renewed. Applicants must apply every year. The application period for the upcoming school year will begin on Thursday, June 19, 2025, and will end on Friday, July 11, 2025.

As we gear up for the 2025-2026 school year, we are excited to announce the launch of our new uniform ordering process. Southern University Laboratory School, in collaboration with the PTO, has partnered with The Printing Source to streamline the uniform purchasing experience for our families. Starting this year, uniforms will be ordered online via the https://mytshirtquote.com/sulab/shop/home website.
SUMMER 2025 Mathematics Boot Camp at the Timbuktu Academy (SMBC-TA)
Southern University Laboratory School is proud to support the Summer 2025 Mathematics Boot Camp at the Timbuktu Academy (SMBC-TA), hosted at Southern University and A&M College. From June 2–27, selected students entering grades 9–12 will explore quantum mechanics, computing, and advanced STEM concepts through research-based learning and lectures from top experts. This immersive, no-cost program is led by Dr. Anthony Stewart and Dr. Diola Bagayoko and funded by the IBM-HBCU Quantum Center. The application deadline is May 2, 2025.
SULS Students Take Learning to New Heights with Drone Exploration
Southern University Laboratory School’s 4th and 5th grade students recently took learning to new heights through an exciting drone flying experience, thanks to the Southern University Agriculture Youth Development Department. Led by Dr. Raquel Ayles, Ms. Alexis Motley, and Mr. Robert Easly this hands-on activity introduced students to STEM concepts and career pathways in a fun and engaging way—highlighting the power of innovation and partnership in education.

Making Waves in Water Safety: SULS Partners with YMCA for Year Two of Swim Lessons
Southern University Laboratory School is proud to continue its partnership with the YMCA of the Capital Area for the second year, offering free swim lessons and water safety education to students in grades K–8. This initiative empowers nearly 200 students with essential life skills, promotes physical activity, and supports our commitment to student well-being and community health.
First Grade Explores the Wild Side at Global Wildlife!
Our 1st grade class, led by Mrs. Rollins, took learning beyond the classroom with a fun and educational trip to the Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, Louisiana. Students explored the outdoors, fed exotic animals, and gained hands-on insight into wildlife and conservation. It was an unforgettable experience that brought science and nature to life!
SULS SeaPerch Team Dives Into STEM at McNeese Competition
Middle and High School students from Southern University Laboratory School recently competed in the McNeese State University SeaPerch Competition, demonstrating their skills in underwater robotics. With support from Brandi Brister of the LSU AgCenter, our SeaPerch team dove into STEM with enthusiasm and Jaguar excellence!
SULS Partners with SU Tennis Team to Introduce Tennis to Elementary Students
Southern University Laboratory School has partnered with the Southern University Tennis Team to introduce our Elementary students to the sport of tennis. This exciting collaboration promotes physical activity, skill-building, and mentorship by connecting young students with collegiate athletes who inspire on and off the court.

Celebrating Our Teachers During Omega Psi Phi Achievement Week
During Omega Psi Phi Achievement Week, the Capitol City Ques (Beta Sigma, Lambda Alpha, Lambda Kappa Kappa, Delta Tau, and Theta Kappa) showed appreciation to our teachers by providing donuts and juice. Kameron Tillage Receives Silver Congressional Award from Congressman Graves
Kameron Tillage, a senior at Southern University Laboratory School, was awarded the prestigious Silver Congressional Award by Congressman Garret Graves on October 1, 2024. This honor recognizes Kameron's dedication to personal development, leadership, and over 200 hours of community service, including meal distributions and initiatives for local senior homes. As Senior Class President and a member of Jack and Jill of America, Kameron has demonstrated remarkable leadership and academic achievement, maintaining a 3.5 GPA while balancing honors, AP, and Dual Enrollment courses. Congressman Graves praised Kameron for his commitment to making a difference in the community, highlighting his balanced approach to academics, extracurriculars, and service. Kameron views this award as motivation to continue his impactful work in Baton Rouge and beyond.
