We are thrilled to share with you the latest news from Southern University Laboratory School following the release of the official 2022-2023 school and district performance scores by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE). Dolores Spikes Honors College Information Session

The Dolores Margaret Richard Spikes Honors College at Southern University (the "Honors College") will host some of the "best and brightest" at a free informative session. This event should be of interest to high school seniors who meet the requirements for admission to the Honors College, which generally include a 3.3 GPA and a composite ACT score of 23 or higher or an equivalent SAT score (without writing).

This year is the four-year anniversary of Traeh’s death. On Sunday, October 1, 2023, the foundation had its Third Annual Bullying and Suicide Awareness Runway Show at Enchanted Gardens located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This show brought awareness to bullying and youth suicide while showcasing local designers and community youth, providing resources and tips to stop/prevent bullying and suicide, providing resources to support mental health and crisis prevention, and paying tribute to Traeh Thyssen.

In the world of sports broadcasting, few experiences can rival the thrill of working behind the scenes at a major network like ESPN. Several talented students from Southern University Laboratory School, this dream became a reality as they embarked on an unforgettable internship during the Southern University vs. Florida A&M football game. Mariah Clivens, Dashayla Snerling, Khaleb Smith, Ethan Jupiter, Faith Thornton, Dalton Toussant, and Keyana Jackson were selected to join the ESPN production team, where they played a role in bringing the Black College Game Day and the thrilling football game to screens across the nation.

First Fridays at Southern University Laboratory School are dedicated to celebrating Literacy and encouraging students to become lifelong readers. Friday, September 1, 2023 kicked off the monthly literacy events. The Kittens welcomed the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Bookmobile for the first of many visits and checked out a book and were later treated to snowballs.

SULS Playground Naming Project

SU Lab state of the art playground and fence with 8 connecting brick columns have been constructed. To finalize the vision the students and teachers need 4 playground benches. SULS Art Department Pay Tribute to Alma W. Thomas

“Alma Woodsey Thomas (September 22, 1891 – February 24, 1978) was an African-American artist and teacher who lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and is now recognized as a major American painter of the 20th century. Thomas is best known for the "exuberant", colorful, abstract paintings that she created after her retirement from a 35-year career teaching art at Washington's Shaw Junior High School.
