In the world of sports broadcasting, few experiences can rival the thrill of working behind the scenes at a major network like ESPN. For several talented students from Southern University Laboratory School, this dream became a reality as they embarked on an unforgettable internship during the Southern University vs. Florida A&M football game. Mariah Clivens, Dashayla Snerling, Khaleb Smith, Ethan Jupiter, Faith Thornton, Dalton Toussant, and Keyana Jackson were selected to join the ESPN production team, where they played a role in bringing the Black College Game Day and the thrilling football game to screens across the nation.
These exceptional students had the rare opportunity to gain real-world experience in one of the most renowned sports networks in the world. From the moment they set foot in the ESPN studios, they were immersed in a whirlwind of excitement and learning.
One of the highlights of this internship was the chance to be part of the production team for Black College Live. This groundbreaking show celebrates the rich traditions, history, and athleticism of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Their roles extended beyond the technical aspects as they contributed ideas for on-air segments and helped with guest coordination. This hands-on experience allowed them to witness firsthand how a nationally televised sports program is created from the ground up.
The ESPN internship was more than just a remarkable experience for these students; it was a stepping stone toward their future careers in sports broadcasting. Mariah, Dashayla, Khaleb, Ethan, Faith, Dalton, and Keyana gained invaluable knowledge, forged invaluable connections, and honed their skills to perfection during their time with ESPN.
