The Resurgence of the Southern Lab Marching Band: A Year to Remember

This year marked a historic comeback for the Southern University Laboratory School Marching Band under the dynamic leadership of Ms. DeAmber Taylor. With thirty eager musicians stepping up to the plate, the legacy of the Southern Lab Band is being rebuilt stronger than ever.

An incredible 95% of our students touched an instrument for the very first time this year—and in a remarkably short period, they were able to produce music that inspired pride and unity across our school community. For many, this program became more than just learning notes and rhythms; it fostered confidence, teamwork, and trust. It gave a voice and a sense of belonging to students who previously felt they had no space to express themselves.

This is just the beginning. We are committed to growing, improving, and building upon this foundation each and every year. The future of the Southern Lab Band is bright, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
