Summer Newsletter 2022

Welcome

8th Grade Student of The Year

Reginald Ellis 8th Grade Student of the Year

I hope you are enjoying your summer and preparing for the upcoming school year. We would like to congratulate the students who successfully completed the summer S.W.A.G., Enrichment, & BAYOU camps. Scholarship is one of the pillars that is at the foundation of our beloved institution, and I want to emphasize that learning never stops.

The SULS faculty and staff are excited and ready to embrace the opportunities that are in front of us. As we start the process of coming through the end of the pandemic, it is important to know that we have “work to do.” Learning remotely, starting school, stopping school, etc. paved the way for learning gaps to take place. As we start the 22-23SY we are implementing new strategies to start the learning recovery process. Please understand, LEAP 2025, ACT standards, and graduation requirements have not changed, and we must continue to prepare for the passing of the standardized assessments.

Brooklyn Chisley 5th Grade Student of the Year

Based on the interest of your school we have developed some amazing opportunities to help develop their pathway in 4-H. The students will learn monthly from a broad menu of 4-H programs. There are hands-on, learn-by-doing, opportunities for everyone. Our program areas are stem, agriculture, healthy living, and civic engagement. Through hands-on learning, kids build not only confidence, creativity, and curiosity, but also life skills such as leadership and resiliency to help them thrive today and tomorrow. 4-H programs are available for kids and teens ages 8-18. 4-H Cloverbud programs are available for kids ages 5-7.
