Southern University Laboratory School 4th Graders Experience an Unforgettable Day of Giving and Inspiration

The holiday season brought an incredible surprise for Southern University Laboratory School’s 4th graders—a gift that will be remembered for years to come. Thanks to the generosity of Todd Graves, founder and CEO of Raising Cane’s, and Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, our students received brand-new bicycles as part of a community initiative to spread joy and promote healthy lifestyles.

This remarkable event wasn’t just about the bikes; it was about creating lasting memories and inspiring students. Our students had the rare opportunity to meet two of Louisiana’s most influential leaders in business and sports. Todd Graves and Gayle Benson shared words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of hard work, kindness, and giving back to the community.

The partnership between Raising Cane’s and the YMCA made this day possible, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to YMCA Director Sean Elliot and his dedicated team for their leadership and support in organizing this event. Their commitment to youth development and community engagement truly shines through moments like these.

We also want to recognize Ms. Pooler, our amazing 4th-grade teacher, for her unwavering dedication to her students. Her efforts ensured that our Lab School scholars were prepared to fully embrace this unique experience.

This initiative reflects the power of collaboration and the impact of generosity. It reminds us that when businesses, schools, and community organizations come together, we can create opportunities that inspire and uplift the next generation.
