SULS Participates in YMCA Youth & Government Conference

Empowering Future Leaders: Southern University Laboratory School Shines at YMCA Youth & Government Conference!

We are thrilled to announce the active participation of our students in the annual Louisiana YMCA Youth Legislature conference. This three-day event is a remarkable opportunity that immerses high school students from across the state in every aspect of state government.

Engaging All Three Branches of Government:

During the conference, our students assume roles in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, passionately debating issues of local and state importance. It's a hands-on experience that provides them with invaluable insights into the democratic process.

Leadership Development and Presiding Skills:

The Youth Legislature is a student-led conference where State Board officials are elected by their peers to plan and preside over each session. This allows our students to not only participate actively but also develop crucial leadership and presiding skills.

Diverse Perspectives, Unified Goals:

Attached is a video that beautifully captures the diversity of the conference, with our very own Southern University Laboratory School students shining in various capacities. This experience goes beyond textbooks, forcing participants to engage at the highest levels of Depth of Knowledge (DOK). They are challenged to create, explore, investigate, debate, and collaborate with fellow students from every corner of Louisiana.

Encouraging More Students to Join:

We wholeheartedly encourage more students to partake in this life-changing experience. It's not just about understanding government; it's about becoming active participants in shaping our collective future.

Let's continue fostering a new generation of leaders who are informed, passionate, and ready to make a difference! 🌐✨ #YouthLeadership #GovernmentEngagement #FutureLeaders
