Cyber Security Camp is a FREE 5-day NON-RESIDENTIAL camp where students will learn about the exciting world of cybersecurity: each day, campers will participate in many hands-on computer activities to learn about different cybersecurity topics. The goals of the program are to increase interest in cybersecurity careers and diversity in the cybersecurity workforce of the nation, help all students understand correct and safe on-line behavior, and how they can be good digital citizens. This Women's History Month program seeks to explore the daily indignities and inequalities that women face, often without support. This panel of fierce female change agents will empower us and educate us about the urgent need for narrative change and memorialization work that can lead to needed gender disparity reforms. Most importantly, they will teach us penetrating lessons about who women really are. Join and learn how they have navigated their respected spaces "with a knee on their necks."

Southern University Laboratory School is excited to announce that we will be hosting our summer enrichment program again this summer. We will have a variety of learning opportunities for grades Pre-K through 12. We will offer Camp S.W.A.G for Elementary students and Bridging the Gap for Middle and High School students. Also, Southern University’s Agricultural Department will host Southern University BAYOU & Southern University BAYOU Camp Ag-Xperience for High School students.

Congratulations to Kameron Tillage on placing 4th in the  Black & White Photography in Division II. Kameron along with 13 students attended the state Beta Convention in February.  The Visual Arts competition provides students the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents and creative abilities. This completion is designed to encourage creativity, innovation, reward outstanding craftsmanship, and reinforce the importance of fine arts.

The 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge & University of Louisiana System are excited to announce our 3rd Annual Virtual College Fair (see below flyer), held on March 18th.  High School Students should register for this event.  Parents are also strongly encouraged to participate.

The annual Ring & Pinning Ceremony for our Juniors will be held on March 24, 2023, at 1:30 pm.  Students will receive their rings that were purchased from Herff Jones.  If you have purchased a ring from another company, please bring your ring to Ms. Crystal Franklin on the morning of the ceremony. 

The Alpha Enrichment Foundation Scholarship award is open to Beta Iota Lambda Chapter mentees and affiliates who are preparing to pursue a bachelor degree, associate degree, technical diploma or certificate at a U.S. accredited college or university.  Contingent upon the availability of funding, the scholarship is a one-time only award and will be paid during the first academic year of official enrollment in a four-year University or College or a Career/Vocational/Technical program.  Click Here for More Info

Southern University Laboratory School sent 29 students to the Regional VII Science Fair to compete against students from various high schools. Two students placed in their categories. Kaleb Byrd, 9th grade, placed 3rd in the Behavioral Science category. Cydney Williams, 11th grade, placed in the Microbiology category. All science fair participants not only exemplified their creativity, but also their determination, diligence, and superb work ethics in their researching, planning, and conducting of their project’s plan and experiment. Congratulations to Mrs. Bell and all participants.  Go Kittens!

Baton Rouge Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has initiated a Pre-College in partnership with Southern University Laboratory School. Targeting students from 10th -12th grade, they will be targeting young students across the Baton Rouge area assisting them with college readiness skills; thus, preparing them for college readiness.  (Click Here For More)

On Thursday, February 9, 2023, International Business Machines (IBM) visited Southern University Laboratory School to engage students about STEM areas highlighting technology and how integral it is in their everyday lives. IBM staff members introduced themselves, highlighting their educational background (schools & majors) along with the projects they have worked on. Our girls have a goal to sell 3,400 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies in total as a troop. Every box counts. The proceeds from cookie sales go back into our school's troop as well as the local Girl Scouts community. Cookie sales help aide in supporting our girls to participate in many amazing Girl Scout opportunities throughout the year. Thank you for supporting us and helping our troop to stand out from the rest. 

SAVVI Magazine is looking for students (Ages 4-19) who are interested in modeling. If you are interested SAVVI Kids magazine will be coming to Louisiana with designers from across the country. The Southern University Office of Traffic and Parking is a division of the Southern University-BR Police Department.  This office is responsible for controlling the movement of vehicular traffic and enforcing parking regulations on the campus.  The Traffic & Parking Regulations require all students, faculty and staff parking on campus to register their vehicle, purchase a parking permit and park in their designated parking area during the zone parking hours of 7:00AM – 5:00PM Monday-Friday.

Next week, December 12 - 16, 2022, school will be in session with Wednesday, Thursday and Friday December 14-16, being half days. Students will be dismissed at noon on those days, and there will be no extended day so please plan accordingly. Click the post to see more information.

Southern University Laboratory School sent 19 students ranging from grades 7th-11th to the 61st YMCA Youth & Government Conference held in Baton Rouge, LA. Organized by State Director Jeremy Miller and Isha Matta, the conference was December 1-3, 2022.

We are happy to announce that Southern University Laboratory Virtual School scored a 66.2 C for the 2021-2022 school year! This program has shown tremendous growth even during a global pandemic. The school began with a 40.2 F in 2018-2019. While most schools struggled post COVID SULVS continued to improve academically as a result of uninterrupted learning due to the virtual environment. Congratulations!!!

STEM NOLA is providing a FREE opportunity for family fun & STEM Learning as we expose and inspire future Innovators, Creators, Makers and Entrepreneurs in New Orleans and surrounding areas! Attendees will learn about opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as they engage with more than 60+ STEM activities and demonstrations. All required materials will be provided when students arrive. The IN-PERSON STEM FEST will be held Dec. 10 from 9:00am - 12:00pm in New Orleans, LA 70127 at Joe W. Brown Park - 5601 Read Blvd.

The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) Youth Committee will host a virtual panel discussion entitled “Real Talk: A Candid Conversation about Dating Abuse.” The panelist will consist of students and law enforcement as they discuss some of the most pressing issues relating to dating abuse among young people. The moderator will be Mrs. Twahna P. Harris, founder and executive director of the The Butterfly Society. The panel will begin at 6:00 pm and conclude at 7:30 pm.
