Pre-ACT Information (8th Grade Students)

Greetings Kitten Family!

As we continue to guide our students toward a successful academic future, I am excited to highlight a valuable opportunity that can significantly impact their journey – the Pre-ACT.

The Pre-ACT is a standardized test designed to assess and prepare students for their transition to higher education. It provides an early assessment of your child's academic strengths and areas for improvement while also identifying these areas early on allows for targeted support and preparation for future academic challenges.

This test is specifically crafted to measure college and career readiness for students in 8th grade. Following the exam, students will receive a score report that identifies areas of strength and opportunities as well as a predicted ACT composite score. The cost of the assessment is $16.00. It will be administered on March 13, 2024. Testing will begin at 8:30 AM.  We are asking that students report to school on time so that we can begin on time. More information will be sent home closer to the test date.  You can pay for the exam online via the school app or stop by the front office.

Taking the Pre-ACT is an investment in your child’s academic success. We are strongly encouraging all families to take advantage of this great opportunity.

We look forward to the great day and are eager to see how great our students will perform. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Angela Carter-Robinson.

Sincerely,

ACT for 9th Grade Students

Greetings Kitten Family!

We are excited to announce that  ALL ninth-grade students will take the ACT on March 13, 2024, at Southern University Laboratory School along with the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth-grade students. The ACT has long been recognized as one of the leading college entrance exams in the country and is accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the United States. In addition, by taking the ACT, Southern University Laboratory School students can have scores sent directly to colleges and universities and make themselves visible to scholarship agencies.

The ACT is a standardized test that assesses students' academic readiness for college and is a crucial component of the college admissions process. Our goal at Southern Lab is to provide multiple opportunities for our students to take the ACT before they graduate as studies have shown that students with repeated score attempts average 2.9 points higher than single testers.

All students will take the  ACT online. The online version of the ACT consists of the same four multiple-choice subtests as the paper version; English, mathematics, reading, and science. The online version also contains the same content, number of items and timing.

Testing will begin at 8:30 AM.  We are asking that students report to school on time so that we can begin on time. More information will be sent home closer to the test date.

We look forward to the great day and are eager to see how amazing our students will perform. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Angela Carter-Robinson.

Sincerely,
