SULS Students Take Learning to New Heights with Drone Exploration

Southern University Laboratory School continues to provide students with innovative and hands-on learning opportunities and this month, our 4th and 5th grade students took to the skies!

Thanks to a dynamic connection with the Southern University Agriculture Youth Development Department, students participated in an interactive drone flying experience designed to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Led by Dr. Raquel Ayles, Ms. Alexis Motley, and Mr. Robert Easly the program offered students a first-hand look at drone technology, how it’s used across various industries, and how it can serve as a gateway to future careers in agriculture, engineering, and beyond. The activity provided students with real-world applications of STEM skills, while building teamwork, critical thinking, and excitement for innovation.

This experience is part of the broader mission of the Youth Development Program at SU Ag Center, which focuses on leadership development, life skills, and exposure to career pathways that empower youth for success. Learn more about their work here: SU Ag Youth Development Program

We’re thankful for our continued collaboration with the SU Ag Center and look forward to more opportunities that help our Kittens grow into confident, capable leaders of tomorrow.
